Great Glen Oadby & Wigston

Group Sustainability Policy

Interest Groups are expected to make continuing efforts to be sustainable, by recruiting sufficient members to make a substantial contribution to their accommodation and any other ongoing costs. Great Glen Oadby & Wigston U3A accepts the need to subsidise groups starting up or facing particular, usually temporary, difficulties.

The Committee will endeavour to provide venues for indoor activities (other than where specialist facilities are needed) and will set a recommended uniform sessional payment for indoor activities in premises for which Great Glen, Oadby & Wigston pays the rent. This payment will be subject to review in the light of budgetary needs and the ongoing aim to keep activities affordable. (Individual members are however at liberty to make additional sessional payments.)

The Committee will encourage all groups to maintain an active membership sufficient to achieve sustainability. The Committee will monitor the success of groups in this regard, and will work with the Leaders of groups falling short to put in place suitable plans and remedial actions. Members of groups continuing to make annual deficits exceeding £350 will be expected to make payments above the uniform sessional payment within a range set by the Committee.
